Rosalio Cortez immigrated from Mexico when he was 17years old and worked at the border of Mexicali. Yolanda Cortez immigrated from Mexico when she was 17 years old and worked at a tortilla shop in Rosemead. 

 

They met in 1982 and got married in 1984.

  • 1985- Rosalio Cortez started selling used tires at Sundown Theater/Swap Meet, Whitter.

  • 1986- Opened First Tire Shop, South Central LA (closed).

  • 1990-2013- Focused on expanding and growing the business as Cortez Tire Service.

Rosalio Cortez and Yolanda Cortez managed 7 tire shop locations.

  • 1st Shop Commerce (Sold)

  • 2nd Shop East LA (Cortez Jr)

  • 3rd Truck Tires Shop Commerce (710 Tire)

  • 4th Carson (Sold)

  • 5th El Monte (Llantero) 

  • 6th South El Monte (Closed)

  • 7th La Puente (Closed)

Prior to 2008 housing market crashed: 2 locations focused on commercial tires and 5 locations focused on passenger tires. 

 

After 2008 housing market crashed, sold 2 locations to his oldest sons, closed 2 locations, and rented 2 locations to other businesses. 

 

2019- present- The Cortez Tires Corporation was closed and transitioned to retirement.

The last shop, 710 Tire, is managed by his two youngest sons.
